Ignite - April 2017 - HIIT Exercises
No time? no gym? No problem!
The popularity of high intensity interval training is on the rise. High intensity interval training sessions are commonly called HIIT workouts. This type of training involves repeated bouts of high intensity effort followed by varied recovery times.
The idea is that you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time.
A high-intensity workout increases the body’s need for oxygen during the effort and creates an oxygen shortage, causing your body to ask for more oxygen during recovery. This afterburn effect is referred to as Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) and is the reason why intense exercise will help burn more fat and calories than regular aerobic and steady-state workouts.
Whatever your level of fitness, HIIT exercises are a great way of keeping active as they can be tailored to suit your needs and ability.
In this course, our Fitness Instructor Sean Connolly, takes you through all you need to know to get on track.
